Greetings fellow ComixBawse!
I’m glad you decided to visit my blog, your awesome presence is appreciated! I’m very excited to begin sharing my analyses of geek stuff with you!
My interest in comics started about a year ago when I studied them in a course called “Sex, Violence and Comics” in college. Prior to taking this course I always assumed comics were–forgive my bouginess––too juvenile for my tastes––I never considered them to be “real” books. Boy was I wrong! I found that some comics were more profound than novels I’ve read in the past and that was something I’d never expected. I had decided to take the class on a whim because I thought the title was pretty cool…and who wouldn’t want to talk about sex all day? Despite being a chemistry major in college, I fell in love with it and it quickly became my favorite class. From that point on I began taking comic analyses seriously because I noticed that many of them discussed important topics like: racism, sexuality, sex, classism, gender, and a bunch of other tropes and themes. The fact that comics could be used as a medium to comment on societal issues was both mind-blowing and captivating at the same time. While studying comics in class, I began watching anime at home (at the request of my boyfriend) and found that similar themes can be found in them too; I became even more obsessed!
Since that class I’ve been hooked so I try and find new (and old) comics to read on a semi-regular basis (I gotta work too!). It doesn’t stop at just comics and anime though; I also love to read novels and watch television shows–typically ones that feature a black lead since they’re so few and far between.
I’m really looking forward to meeting other ComixBawses who share my interests as I continue to post my content. With that said, I’ll do my best to analyze or review some of my favorite anime, comics, books and shows!
I hope you enjoy the ride!
